The Laboratory Assistant supports the day-to-day activities in the laboratory, by performing basic supportive duties like laboratory supplies, waste management, administrative tasks, taking care of samples (fetching, delivering, and storage) as well as by carrying out physical standard tests on product samples to determine the quality of the products, in order to allow the Laboratory Technicians to focus on the more complex test and analysis work
The Laboratory Assistant typically works within a medium to large sized Laboratory, supporting the work of the Laboratory Technicians and (in case of a R&D laboratory) and Researchers. In-depth knowledge of the laboratory and its function is not essential to perform the tasks; a general knowledge of the standard procedures suffices. The Laboratory Assistant can normally quickly familiarize with the relevant procedures and work instructions for most of the supportive duties. The Laboratory Assistant role may also include conducting some routine, standardized tests or measurements on incoming goods and raw materials, as well as supporting measurements for R&D-projects. Standard, straight forward measurements following a strict protocol can be performed by the Laboratory Assistant. Measurements that may show extraordinary results and complicated measurements and analysis are performed by Laboratory Technicians.Job Description:Quality control and testing:o Receives and clears product samples, performs dosing of the samples and performs standard analysis (moisture content, composition, protein content and the like) on these, based on established rules and procedureso Documents the test results, reporting defects and problems to internal stakeholderso Storage of the samples according to procedureReporting:o Registers analysis results accurately and timely in the relevant quality or reporting systems, in order to provide insight and access to the test results and measurements at all timesQuality Assurance:o Performs all tests and measurements in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at the laboratory and with the relevant standards such as ISO9001 and ISO17025o Complies with legal and company rules and procedures in the areas of quality, safety and environmentMaintenance:o Responsible for the tools and instruments used; setting-up and adjusting equipment at prescribed valueso Performs first line maintenance and cleaning of equipment and instruments, in order to prevent disruptions in the testing processes and to ensure continuous quality and reliability of test results.
