Amazon Frontlines (amazonfrontlines.org) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Amazon Frontlines fights the climate crisis by securing indigenous stewardship of the Amazon rainforest. We build power with Indigenous leaders to form a bulwark of resistance throughout the upper Amazon, working together deep in the forest, at our organising hub in northeastern Ecuador, and in the halls of power worldwide. Position Overview:
The Creative Writer will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of Amazon Frontlines' mission and work. Based within the Communications Team, this position will collaborate closely with programmatic colleagues across the organization to produce compelling, well-researched, and engaging written content grounded in the realities of our work in the Amazon.
The role will focus on developing powerful storytelling that highlights efforts to uphold Indigenous rights, confront climate change, and advance environmental justice, while driving awareness, action, and support for our campaigns. Within the Communications Team, the Creative Writer will develop a range of editorial content, including email newsletters and fundraising campaigns, website articles, op-eds, and social media copy. The role will also coordinate with various teams across the organization to ensure the appropriate, meaningful, and accurate representation of Indigenous communities and the issues affecting their territories.
This position requires a sharp eye for detail, strong research skills, and the ability to distil complex issues into clear, compelling narratives. It also demands newsroom-like agility, with the capacity to respond quickly, produce high-quality content under tight timelines, and adapt messaging for urgent digital advocacy and fundraising moments.
Ideal Candidate:
Extensive experience (5+ years) in beat journalism and reporting, communications, fact-checking, editorial work, and storytelling, preferably in the context of environmental, climate, indigenous rights and human rights.
The ideal candidate has strong experience working with international non-profit organizations.
Full professional fluency in English is required, including the ability to write, edit, and proofread complex narrative and advocacy content. The candidate should also demonstrate strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills in Spanish.
Exceptional writing and editing skills,
with the ability to craft compelling, persuasive, and emotionally resonant stories across formats.
Demonstrated experience writing for digital fundraising and supporter engagement, including email appeals, donation pages, digital campaigns, and donor-centered storytelling that drives action and giving.
Strong understanding of how storytelling, audience segmentation, and calls to action function in digital advocacy and fundraising contexts.
Proven ability to edit different types of texts, working with short and tight deadlines.
Experience drafting

Demonstrated ability to edit reports, op-eds, and other long-form content, ensuring clarity, accuracy, strong narrative flow, and adherence to editorial standards.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines with attention to detail.
Familiarity with environmental issues and Indigenous rights, particularly related to the Amazon region.
Experience drafting email newsletter content that is innovative, engaging and strategically aligned with audience growth and retention.
Access to necessary technology and software for remote work.
Full professional fluency in English and proficient in Spanish.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Content Creation for Web, Email Newsletter and Social Networks:
In coordination with the Head of Digital Content and Communications, regularly generate creative, thought-provoking, and original content for the organization's website, social media channels and mailing list, focusing on raising awareness, deepening engagement, and supporting digital fundraising efforts around issues facing the Amazon and the work of AF and our Indigenous partners.
Engage in strategic work planning and visioning with the Communications Team and execute plans in coordination with Program Coordinators and allies effectively and in a timely manner.
Write op-eds and opinion pieces on relevant environmental, cultural, and human rights topics for publication in media outlets.

Fact-Checking, Copy Editing, and Proofreading:
Verify the accuracy and credibility of information presented in various communications materials, including articles, reports, and social media posts.
Provide editorial support in refining content for clarity, coherence, and alignment with organizational messaging.
Edit and proofread texts, ensuring grammatical correctness, consistency, and adherence to style guidelines.
Work closely with writers and contributors to refine their work and enhance its impact for the target audience.
Maintain a keen eye for detail, flow, engagement, and accuracy in all written materials.
4. Collaboration and Reporting:
This person will report to the Head of Digital Content and Communications and work in close collaboration with the Director of Communications.
Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across different teams to align communication efforts with organizational goals and priorities.
Provide regular updates and reports on project progress, outcomes, and challenges to the Head of Digital Content, in close collaboration with the Advocacy, Media and Campaigns managers.
Participate in meetings and discussions to contribute expertise and insights to communication strategies.
Contribute as needed to special investigative projects that uncover critical insights, trends, and challenges through research and analysis within the scope of AF's mandate.
In collaboration with the Communications team, collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather data, conduct interviews, and produce compelling narratives about AF's work and mission.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in beat reporting, editorial work, or content creation, preferably in environmental, climate, or human rights contexts.
To be bilingual in English and Spanish.
Exceptional writing skills in English and Spanish with a proven ability to craft engaging, persuasive content for various platforms and audiences.
Experience in editing and proofreading to ensure clarity, coherence, and adherence to editorial standards.
Familiarity with social media platforms and experience in creating content in different digital formats.
Knowledge of environmental issues and Indigenous rights, particularly related to the Amazon, is highly desirable.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
Proficiency in remote working tools and access to necessary technology for online collaboration.
